DAY 1. SPILIMBERGO AND VALVASONE

Meetin in Spilimbergo in the morning. Visit at the “city of mosaics”, seat of the Friuli School of Mosaic Art. Visit of the Cathedral with its 13th century frescoes, the castle with its Painted Palace, the Upper Palace or Palazzo di Sopra in the Valbruna borough, the Church of St. Joseph and St. Pantaleon and its historical centre with its narrow alleys and porticoes. Stop for a rich tasting at the Magredi Winery.

In the afternoon the visit proceeds in Valvasone, among the alleys of this ancient medieval structure, dominated by its castle. Its Cathedral holds a precious 16th-century organ of Vincenzo De Columbis, belonging to the Venetian school. The visit of the castle, then, hides a surprise: a miniature theatre! It is the smallest in Europe! It is thought to be the only private theater from 18th Century still in existence in Italy.

At the end of the visit, transfer to the hotel, dinner and overnight.

DAY 2. AQUILEIA AND PALMANOVA

Meeting with the guide in Aquileia. Founded in 181 B.C., this small town has an archaeological area of exceptional importance, as it is considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Excavations have brought to light the ruins of a Roman forum, a Basilica, an ancient cemetery and mosaic flooring. Suggested entrances at: the splendid Basilica of S. Maria Assunta with the 2 crypts (with the famous early Christian mosaics - 3rd century), the Baptistery, the bell tower and the Archeological Museum.

Lunch in a restaurant.
In the afternoon free visit of Palmanova, called “The Perfect Star”. Palmanova is a masterpiece of Venetian military architecture, a fortress town designed and built to defend the regional borders against foreign threats, particularly from the Turks. The town plan is based on a unique model, a perfectly symmetrical nine-pointed star, with a central piazza.
Access to the centre is via three monumental gates, known as Aquileia, Udine and Cividale and, whichever direction you arrive from, you reach the Piazza Grande, the historic fortress square. The square is in the form of a perfect hexagon and is flanked by fine and important buildings. World Heritage Site by UNESCO. In the evening accommodation at the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 3. POLCENIGO AND SESTO AL REGHENA

Visit of Polcenigo. The area is of significant tourist interest due to a series of historical, artistic, natural, accommodation and catering elements, some of which are really exceptional. Polcenigo features the Museum of Culinary Art, which recalls all the generations of cooks emigrated all over the world.

Its link to water is extremely strong. The sources of the Gorgazzo, crystal clear waters that spring from a Karst cavity, made charming by the plays of light that filter from the rocks, are extremely fascinating.

Lunch in Sacile and brief walk in the center.
In the afternoon stop in Sesto al Reghena to visit the beautiful Benedictine Abbey of Santa Maria in Sylvis. Founded by the Langobards, it was named thus because in ancient times it was located in a thick forest or wood, and it represented one of the most important monastic institutions in Friuli Venezia Giulia, whose act of donation celebrated its 1200-year birthday in 2012. End of the tour.
